What policies should I have if I am captain of my cheerleading squad?
I am a member of my school's JV, many say next season I have a shot at Varsity, or JV captain. But, our JV is probably the worst JV around in skill and behavior. The girls never listen, they always have an attitude, they talk about eachother, they don't improve their jumps, they are not seroius during stunting, some of them arrive to practice , their motions are sloppy, their grades are terrible, and they make up the half time dances the day before the game. It really is pathetic. Our JV is the laughing sock at our school. Other squads at the different schools pity us. I like to mold the girls into better cheerleaders, I love to help out and I know what descions should be made for the betterment of the squad, so I wouldn'tr mind being captain. Any ideas to help improve these problems? Any rules I should establish?
I've coached and judged for 8 years now. My daughter cheers both for a football team and competitively. Truthfully, your coach should be setting the rules. Your coach should also be the one teaching skills and working to improve technique. Your coach should also teach new routines using input from the squad. If not, you need a new coach. Stunting is very serious and can be very dangerous if not done properly. As for the girls talking about each other, you can only control your own actions. However, if one girls starts talking about another, you can refuse to participate in the gossip and let that person know that they should also refrain from talking about their teammates. Good luck!
