Quality bikes under $200?
I'm looking to buy a decent bike for my husband for his birthday, next week. It needs to be versatile (some trails, but also some work commuting) and safe. I know that Walmart doesn't sell bikes of very good quality (and our store won't return them either), but what about Target? I see they sell Schwinns for under $200. And what does it mean to be a "first run" or "second run" bike? I went to a sporting goods store and was seriously considering their 'Huffy Commuter'. I was also told they sold "quality, first-run bikes" (unlike Walmart) when I asked what the difference in quality was. Can someone please help? I'm uneducated when it comes to this, thus pretty confused
Take him to a bike shop, he will need to be fitted for a bike. A hybrid bike will be good for commuting and will handle bike paths like rail trails. A mountain bike will handle the rougher stuff but will be a pain in the butt on the road. Stay away from the Schwinn's sold at Target and Walmart. The only bike I would buy from Target is one of the Forge bikes. You can look for a good used bike on the local Ebay and Craig's list if you know what size he needs. Most $200 bikes are very poor quality and no fun to ride.
