Green Bay Packers tickets will probably never really go down in popularity, but they certainly get spikes sometimes. Even though the offseason for the Packers has been a bit sad with the loss of Brett Farve, the Packers’ faithful fans can take solace in the fact that they have just drafted a bunch of great players. Will the new rookies help out areas of the team which are already in good shape? Or will they pick up the numbers from the places where the Packers could have used some help last year? The first two picks the Packers used were designed to help their offense in the post-Farve era. As you know, Packer quarterbacks (mostly Brett Farve, but also including Aaron Rogers and Craig Nall) combined for a total of 4,334 yards passing, the second most in the NFL. They threw 30 passing touchdowns (6th in the league) and attempted passes 578 times (also 6th). Despite the fact that the Packers’ Brett Fave always gets criticized for interceptions, the team only gave up 15 (all of them Farve’s) over the course of the whole year, which ranks them 11th of 32 NFL teams. The Packers did not get a draft choice in the first round, but in the second round they picked up two passing game components, wide receiver Jordy Nelson from Kansas State, and quarterback Brian Brohm from Louisville. The safe money is that neither of these players will have much impact on the next season, at least unless anything drastic happens. However, this duo could become the new Farve-Freeman someday. It appears as though the Packers are making sure that the passing game in Wisconsin works well into the future.
On defense, both the passing D and the rushing D were in the middle of the “pack.” Green Bay gave up 3,366 yards through the air (12 in the league) and 1,647 yards on the ground (14th). The passing defense got a boost with the addition of the Packers’ third 2nd round selection, CB Patrick Lee from Auburn. Most of the analysts and experts liked this pickup, and they also liked the idea of the Packers having such a strong second round, rather than getting players in the first. It’s a good move for a team that needs just a few minor tweaks to get right back to the NFC Championship game. As for Patrick Lee, he might see some downs early on, but if you had to place a bet, you’d guess that Lee gets more action as the year goes on and last season’s starters wither under perform or get injured. In that case, you’ll get to see a brand new potential star in the secondary when you get some Green Bay Packers tickets.
